You would study micro-organisms and your work can be used to prevent diseases, make medicine or grow food. you could work in research and development in different areas these include:

  • Environment
  • Education
  • Biotechnology

The key skills and qualifications required are higher English, Maths and Biology. To then go on and take a Microbiology degree at university. It is important to have good teamwork, problem solving and communications skills as well as being hard working and kind!
